The BBC told the story of a man whose knee abrasions nearly killed him.
Scott Neil is one of about 500 people a year in the UK who get necrotising fasciitis. He was near losing his left leg or even dying.
DJ and musician said that “It was the most excruciating pain” he have ever had. Scott spent six weeks in hospital and had six operations.
Necrotizing fasciitis (NF), also known as flesh-eating disease, is a bacterial infection that results in the death of parts of the body’s soft tissue. It is a severe disease of sudden onset that spreads rapidly. Symptoms usually include red or purple skin in the affected area, severe pain, fever, and vomiting. The infection can spread quickly and can even lead to death. The risk of developing necrotizing fasciitis from a wound can be reduced by good wound care and handwashing.
