“America should always remember Alaska. Before they take over our resources abroad, they must remember that we also have something to take back,” said Vyacheslav Volodin.
In the second half of the 19th century, the lands of Alaska belonging to Russia were sold to the United States. The treaty was signed after long negotiations on the night of March 29/30, 1867. The $ 7.2 million deal was entered into by Baron Edward de Stoeckl on behalf of Russia, and by William Seward on behalf of the United States, who had previously solicited the purchase of the land. The treaty was ratified by the United States Senate on April 9, 1867, and the House of Representatives on July 14, 1868 passed the money.
