British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace estimated that Russia had lost as many as 580 tanks since the start of the offensive. The Ukrainians themselves say about 980 machines.
According to CNN, the West has long known about the defect in Russian tanks. The British called it “jack-in-the-box”.
It turns out that the tank’s ammunition is kept in the turret of the vehicles. This applies to both the T-80 and T-90 tanks, as well as the BMD-4 landing craft. There may be as many as 40 missiles there. Each successful hit on the turret ignites the ammunition and ruptures the structure. The force of the explosion is able to blow up a two-story building. This is why the Ukrainians are able to quickly destroy an entire Russian vehicle column.
