Increased radiation in Chernobyl

Several fires have occurred in the vicinity of the former Chernobyl nuclear power plant. In many places, including Kiev, higher levels of cesium radiation have been recorded.

The data was provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The increased concentration of cesium is not expected to endanger people, and the situation is constantly monitored.

Spring is the time when fires occur in these regions. Therefore, the fire does not necessarily have to be associated with the invasion of Ukraine.

Firefighters managed to control four fires, but more are appearing. The fire service has limited possibilities of operation due to the lack of access to funds, which are sometimes located in the occupied area.

The Ukrainian regulator assured that this does not affect the radiological situation and does not pose a threat to people.
